As a mom and educator, I know the challenges parents and caregivers face when trying to find effective and appropriate support for their children. With my combination of education, professional experience and passion for helping students succeed, I believe I can help your child develop the foundational skills neccessary for learning to read.

About
I am a mom of two young boys and I have been an elementary teacher in Ontario for the last seven years. I have taught within the Primary and Junior grades, but most of my teaching career has been as a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT). Through this role, I have provided instruction in Language Arts and Math to students with a variety of diagnoses. This includes working with students with learning disabilities and dyslexia. In this role I wrote and implemented Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for my students.
I have a Master of Education degree in Developmental Psychology and Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, where my main focus during my coursework was on Special Education. I also have a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Guelph with a double major in Psychology and Sociology.
After discovering my son had some learning differences, I began researching more effective literacy approaches for reading remediation and discovered the Orton-Gillingham approach. Since then, I have received Orton-Gillingham training and provide explicit and systematic literacy instruction. I believe in early intervention and consistent communication with caregivers to set students up for success!
